Operation Burnham: Govt inquiry faces challenge in High Court

From Morning Report, 8:27 am on 16 April 2019

The government's inquiry into Operation Burnham is facing a challenge in the High Court. The inquiry is being held in response to allegations made in the book Hit and Run, which said the military covered up the deaths of six civilians in the army operation in Afghanistan in 2010. The lawyer for the Afghani villagers, Doctor Rodney Harrison QC told the High Court in Wellington yesterday that his clients are the victims in what happened, but at present the whole Inquiry is being treated as a contest between the defence force and the book's authors. He says the focus is wrong - the villagers need to be front and centre of an Inquiry into the incident. RNZ court reporter Ann Marie May was there. She talks to Gyles Beckford.
