Nomads Waikato gang leader on trial for manslaughter

From Morning Report, 8:53 am on 16 July 2019

A Waikato gang leader and two of his associates are on trial in the High Court in Hamilton charged over the death of a Ngaruawahia man in July last year.

The 26-year old Mitchell Paterson died in Hamilton but his body was discovered at McLaren Falls in Bay of Plenty.

Mr Paterson was a meth addict and small time dealer who the Crown says ran foul of Nomads gang President Leon Wilson - he's charged with manslaughter, kidnapping and trying to defeat the course of justice.

Another man, Christopher Smith faces the same charges and Chloe Kerridge is on trial for kidnapping and conspiring to defeat justice.

RNZ's Waikato reporter Andrew McRae is covering the trial and speaks to Corin Dann about the case.
