Covid-19: Phil Goff's view 'hardening' on those who don't get vaccinated

From Morning Report, 6:43 am on 5 October 2021

Auckland's mayor Phil Goff says his view is hardening on those who are choosing to not get vaccinated.

Eighty-four percent of Aucklanders have had at least one injection, but over 200,000 in the city have not had any.

Goff told Morning Report there's still a long way to go and his opinion is changing on mandatory vaccinations and incentivising.

"I've always taken what I thought was a balanced position that you really do need to get vaxxed but in the end, it's your individual decision," he said.

"It still is because nobody is going to be held down straitjacketed and vaccinated, but there has to be a price for saying, I'm not going to be vaxxed, and therefore I'm going to be a threat of conveying this virus across my community."

Goff is urging Aucklanders to be responsible and safe as restrictions begin to ease.
