Builders threaten to bypass inspections over delays

Some builders are threatening to bypass council inspections because they simply cannot afford to wait weeks amid "absurd" delays in getting staff on site.

Inspections in Christchurch are taking about seven weeks, adding another layer of complexity to the build process, and costing builders and their clients in the process.

The Registered Master Builders Association says it's time for central government to step up.
