Infometrics expecting inflation to stick around a while

New Zealand's economy is in the midst of a major slowdown, but it could narrowly avoid a recession thanks to the revival of the tourism sector, according to new forecasts.

Inflation is running hot across much of the world, with central banks taking measures to dampen consumer demand.

This week, New Zealand's Reserve Bank raised interest rates again by half a percent to 2.5 percent.

Despite those moves, Infometrics expects inflation will stay above 6 percent for the rest of the year.

Infometrics chief forecaster Gareth Kiernan spoke to Susie Ferguson.
