Chinese Communist Party congress concludes

The congress of China's ruling Communist Party is now over, but reverberations from the event look set to be widely felt, not least in New Zealand.

The always highly choreographed political gathering concluded with President Xi Jinping's predecessor, Hu Jintao, getting led off stage without explanation.

It also ended with Jinping assuming near-absolute political control of the world's most-populous nation - and this country's biggest trading partner.

University of Canterbury political scientist and China expert Anne-Marie Brady spoke to Mani Dunlop.
