Kiwi baker trolled over the colour of her butter

From Morning Report, 8:48 am on 17 January 2023

'Douche nozzle' was one of the names thrown at baking star Erin Docherty after she posted a seemingly innocuous gingerbread video to social media back in December.

What was her offence?

Suspiciously yellow butter.

When Erin posted the video of butter being piped through the loaf on her popular cloudy kitchen account, its extraordinary brightness whipped up a "social media storm".

She had already faced vitriol from some followers for her fingernails.

"People get quite angry that I have the audacity to have my fingernails painted in my home … people often tell me off for wearing rings…"

Those sceptical about the shade of Erin's butter did not hold back in the comments.

"People were like 'that's mustard, it's too yellow, you've used additives, that must be fake butter..''

"Instead of just asking why it's so yellow they went straight to [saying it was] mustard."

Erin has since learned that New Zealand butter is a very bright yellow compared to other parts of the world.
