The College of General Practitioners says most of its members have at least one patient who's dependent on the painkiller, Tramadol.
Tramadol was supposed to be a non-addictive alternative to more harmful opioids such as Oxycodone or Fentanyl.
Doctors admit patients need more information about the drug's possible side effects.
