The Education Ministry is investigating whether sexism means teachers are paid less than they should be.
The pay equity investigation covers 90,000 school and early childhood teachers and principals, who collectively earn billions-of-dollars a year.
76 percent of school teachers and 97 percent of early childhood teachers are women and, depending on qualifications, their pay scale ranges from 51- to $90,000 a year.
