Questions raised about response to blaze

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 17 May 2023

In the wake of the Loafers Lodge fire, questions are being asked about the Fire Service's ability to fight fires in high rise buildings in the capital.

On Monday night firefighters confronted screaming people in a stairwell, floor-to-ceiling smoke upstairs and were forced to "nurse" a small ladder truck so it could keep going.

A much larger ladder truck fighting the fire rescued five people off the roof but a second giant ladder truck was unavailable because it was broken down.

Reporter Phil Pennington has been talking to firefighters who were there and spoke with Corin Dann.
