Do we need to monitor AI in the upcoming election?

How can artificial intelligence be monitored heading into October's election? And who should monitor fake news and augmented images?

The questions come after the National Party has admitted to using AI in election campaign imagery.

Just earlier this year, the chief executive of OpenAI, the startup behind ChatGP, told a Senate panel the use of artificial intelligence to interfere with election integrity is a "significant area of concern" and it needs regulation.

University of Auckland senior law lecturer and AI law expert Nikki Chamberlain spoke to Guyon Espiner.
