The National Party has withdrawn from a bipartisan housing policy it helped draft.
The Medium Density Residential Standards were viewed by some as a gamechanger in helping the country address its chronic housing supply problems.
But National now wants councils to be able to opt out.
The National Party's housing spokesperson Chris Bishop spoke to Craig McCulloch.
