Bay of Plenty Regional Council is asking people to take extra care around the edges of Rotorua lakes.
It's warning lake levels have risen significantly after recent heavy rain and people should be extremely careful as unexpected things may be lurking beneath the surface.
The Council's Senior Maritime Officer, Roly Bagshaw, spoke to Craig McCulloch.
