Auckland councillors to consider amendment to stop airport share sales this year

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 9 June 2023

Auckland councillors head into a second day of debate over the Council budget, with the proposed sale of the Council's airport shares again set to dominate proceedings.

Yesterday, opposition to the sale saw the Mayor, Wayne Brown, reduce the number of shares he wanted sold, from the Council's full 18 percent stake, to just over 8 percent.

Councillors have responded by tabling several amendments in a bid to break the impasse.

That includes one from Manukau Ward councillor Lotu Fuli, which seeks to stop the sell-off, pending a full investigation into why it's needed and what else could go up for sale.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
