The government is promising to consult closely with local iwi and hapu over the future the Mt Ruapehu ski fields.
Cabinet has agreed to support separate private bidders running the ski fields after the previous operator fell into volunteer administration.
Regional Economic Development Minister Kiri Allan says the two preferred bidders are Whakapapa Holdings Limited and Pure Turoa Limited, whose respective bids to run the slopes will be considered at a creditors' meeting next week.
