Targets reached in 2023 Census, data to come next year

Despite severe disruption, Stats NZ say between 89 and 91 percent of New Zealanders took part in this year's Census, meaning they either reached - or almost reached - their goal of 90 percent participation.

The original deadline for the survey's return was March 7, but this was extended for cyclone-affected areas to June 1.

Stats NZ's chief executive, Mark Sowden, spoke to Corin Dann.
