The Department of Internal Affairs says it has busted a criminal network of scammers, which was responsible for the majority of texting scams in Aotearoa last year.
The result is an 80 percent drop in the reporting of scams from the public.
In a first-of-its-kind operation, DIA officials used search warrants to seize more than 4000 items used by the transnational scammers, including thousands of dollars worth of SIM cards and hardware.
