Remix The Orchestra 2010

Hip hop music has always taken a bubble'n'squeak approach to the musical ingredients it uses, sampling anything and everything to take the music into new territory. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's Remix the Orchestra project offers Maori and Pacific Island students from the Manukau region the chance to use players from the APO to add their orchestral flourishes to the students' hip hop compositions - plus the opportunity to have a local rapper add rhymes to their beats. For Musical Chairs, Sam Wicks headed to the Otara Music Arts Centre with David Dallas and players from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra to witness this orchestral/urban collaboration.
