Lea Maalfrid first came to prominence at Otago University in the early 1970s as part of a Mad Dogs and Englishmen/Joe Cocker tribute show. She later joined the cosmic group Ragnarok - who took Wagnerian acid-rock on to the New Zealand pub circuit. Maalfrid won the Apra Silver Scroll in 1978 for the song 'Lavendar Mountain'. Since then, artists such as Sheena Easton and Bonnie Raitt have taken her music around the world.
