Pop Mechanix had formed in Christchurch in 1979, with Dick Driver on vocals. Then he suddenly left the band before they released anything. Andrew Snoid joined as singer and re-recorded Driver's work on the debut single. Pop Mechanix then played a blinder at the 1981 Sweetwaters Festival and headed off to Australia to make it big. Circumstances would always prove unfavourable to this powerful pop rock band - but they truly didn't die wondering.
