The Orff approach aims to introduce children to music through song, dance, and performance, and with the use of easy-to-play, melodic percussion instruments, like the marimba. ONZA, or Orff NZ Aotearoa, held their annual Marimba Festival in Auckland last weekend, with around 500 hundred children performing in two gigantic ensembles. Nick Atkinson went along.
