The National have been together since 1999, though various members had been playing with each other for a lot longer - the band is made up of twins Bryce and Aaron Dessner, and another set of brothers, Bryan and Scott Devendorf, and singer Matt Berninger. Though The National's first few albums received critical acclaim, it took until 2007's Boxer for the band to find their audience - they now sell out tours all around the world, including here, where they've just played three nights at the Powerstation. Kirsten Johnstone met Bryce Dessner before the show on Wednesday and asked about the dynamics that make this band function.
