The biggest distribution warehouse for CDs, vinyl and DVDs in the UK and Ireland burnt to the ground in London, after being set alight by rioters. The catalogues of over 150 independent music labels such as Domino, Beggars Banquet, Mute and Ninja Tune were stored by distibutor Play It Again Sam, or PIAS, in the three-storey, 20,000 square metre Sony DADC warehouse in Enfield. Nobody was injured in the blaze, but for many labels, including Warp and Loose Music, it was their sole storage facility. The fire also destroyed thousands of independent DVD titles as well as a large number of blank discs. Kirsten Johnstone speaks with Beggars Banquet chairman Martin Mills, Pip Ryan-Kid from Southbound Distribution and Samuel Flynn-Scott of The Phoenix Foundation.
