John takes a look ahead to ahead to two major events.
This weekend Whitianga is hosting what is now classed as the world's biggest fishing event, Mercury Bay Fishing Club's Kubota Billfish Classic.
And the following week the region moves from hosting boats to cars with Beach Hop at Whangamata, which brings an estimated economic benefit of $20 million.
Also, John says there appears to be some movement on when visitors may be allowed to visit Cathedral Cove again.
