NZ Live: Daffodils

From NZ Live, 2:20 pm on 30 September 2022

The four members of Auckland band Daffodils met at high school and bonded over a shared love of The Cure and Joy Division.

They play us tracks from their latest EP Stay the Night and cover Billy Idol's 'Dancing with Myself'.

As students at Western Springs College, Daffodils competed and were finalists in the 2017 Smokefree Rockquest.

Musician and producer Jol Mulholland was assigned as their mentor and five years later, Daffodils singer Theo Salmon says the band "kept him on" to record Stay the Night.

"We have really good hangs and he likes the same kind of weird sound as us so we have quite a lot of fun."

Next up, Daffodils plan to write an album and hope to play The Great Escape festival in Brighton, England.

In the meantime, you can catch them at K Road's The Others Way Festival on 22 October.

(Theo recommends people heading to Others Way check out a "beautiful live band" from Wellington - Bleeding Star.)

Daffodils played:

'Never, Happier'

‘Every Once in a While’

'Dancing with Myself’

‘House Across the street’

‘Stay the Night’
