CAA levies cause concern

The head of the New Zealand Agricultural Aviation Association says a proposed hike in aviation fees and charges will hit rural areas hardest.

The Civil Aviation Authority is planning to raise aviation industry fees by more than five per cent, to help it achieve revenue targets of almost 50 million dollars a year over the next three years.

It's also proposing a 71 per cent increase in the safety levy paid by some agricultural operators. Association chair Tony Michelle told our reporter Tracy Neal operators don't mind paying their dues, but they are not fairly applied
