From Summer Times, 9:40 am on 9 January 2020

In what has been described as one of the biggest royal stories of modern times, Prince Harry and his wife Megan have announced they are stepping back from royal duties, plan to become financially independent, and will split their time between Britain, Canada and the US.

The couple released a statement this morning outlining their plans. RNZ's London correspondent Olly Barratt joins us with the latest.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Britain's Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, depart after the Royal Family's traditional Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, eastern England, on December 25, 2018.
