The Situation
A ridge of high pressure dominates over the country this weekend.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland and Auckland
Long fine spells and isolated light showers.
Waikato to Wellington, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country. Also Gisborne to Wairarapa
Fine, but isolated showers in the west clearing by evening. Frosts in sheltered places tomorrow morning. Cloud developing in Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Peninsula tomorrow night with possible shower overnight.
Marlborough, Nelson and Canterbury
Fine with some frosts and areas of fog tomorrow morning.
Buller and Westland
Cloudy periods, with a few showers until this evening. Areas of cloud tomorrow morning then fine.
Otago, except for Clutha
Cloudy periods clearing this evening. Some frosts tomorrow morning.
Southland, Fiordland and Clutha
Showers, becoming confined to the Fiords and the south coast this evening.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods and the odd shower.
And the outlook for the following three days...
Monday
North Island: A few showers developing about Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula and Gisborne. Fine elsewhere. South Island: Showers for Fiordland and isolated showers for Westland and Buller. Mainly fine elsewhere.
Tuesday
North Island: A few showers from Northland down to Coromandel Peninsula, clearing. Showers for Gisborne. Cloud increasing in the southwest with isolated showers. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain or showers spreading north, possibly heavy. Snow possible to 1000 metres in the south. Cloud increasing for Christchurch, northern Canterbury, Nelson and Marlborough.
Wednesday
North Island: Showers becoming widespread, but only isolated showers for Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and Gisborne. South Island: Rain or showers, easing. Snow possible to 1000 metres in the east.
And at the Chathams
Partly cloudy with light winds for Monday. Cloud increasing on Tuesday with the chance of a shower, and northeasterlies developing. Showers on Wednesday and winds turning southerly.
