Solomon Islands new Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele expects to have his cabinet lineup finalised over the weekend, as police warn Solomon Islanders to stop posting "inciting" content on Facebook.

Jeremiah Manele has been elected prime minister of Solomon Islands polling 31 votes to 18 over rival candidate and former opposition leader Mathew Wale.

The election of the prime minister in Solomon Islands will take place at 9:30am on Thursday 2 May on the floor of Parliament.

The counting process for Solomon Islands' joint election is only just getting underway as the retrieval of ballot boxes from polling stations all across the country continues.
